Evgenii Tsurkan identifies three models of scientific communication – namely, the deficit, dialogue, and participation models – which represent a traditional framework for understanding the interaction between fundamental science and society at a high level of abstraction. At this level, two distinct types of knowledge are delineated: that generated by academic science and that embodied in techno-science. I argue that by employing a modified version of phenomenological analysis – one focused on a specific phenomenon, such as everyday practices in the field of artificial intelligence – a third possible mode of communication can be identified.
